Sean and I got a new digital camera last year for Christmas. I love it except for the fact that it sucks the batteries. It seems we are forever recharging batteries for the doggone thing. I thought about how my life should be that way. I, too often want to be the energizer bunny and be able to go too long without recharging, but God's not equipped me for that. He loves me too much. He wants me to recharge daily! Not out of obligation, but out of a desire to sit at His feet. One of the things I love about teaching a class is that it keeps me disciplined about Bible study time. However, I can be faithful about that every day and still miss the power. How can that be? It can become monotonous and routine when sweet fellowship with my Savior is not involved. Even with a regular study time, we can become weak, discourged, and despaired if we are only meeting out of obligation. We miss out if we're not recharging the relationship.
What about you? Are you feeling weak today? Discouraged? In despair? We all have those days. I was brought to my knees this morning to be reminded again of the power that comes only through a relationship with Christ and prayer. In the past, pride would have prevented me from saying I am weak. Not now. I have learned that out of weakness comes His recharging, and only through the connection with Him can we find His strength and His power! There's many "thorns in the flesh" we encounter weekly, even daily-especially in ministry, that can cause the power to go out in our lives and deplete us. Only through recharging can we experience the sustaining power and understand the unconditional love and grace of an all powerful Savior.
Life is filled with disappointments and discouragement. Recharge in sweet fellowship with Him this morning. Refocus from the power outage to the One Who charges! It's much easier to get the big picture with fresh batteries.
Corinthians 12
7-10Because of the extravagance of those revelations, and so I wouldn't get a big head, I was given the gift of a handicap to keep me in constant touch with my limitations. Satan's angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! At first I didn't think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me, My grace is enough; it's all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness.Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ's strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size—abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.
