I am such an old fogie when it comes to technology. Sean and I always seem to be on the old fashioned end when it comes to all the new gadgets. We didn't even own a computer until 1999, and by then all our friends had had email accounts for several years already. It was the joke that we might get out of Yabba Dabba Doo Land....one day. If it weren't for the fact that the church provides his blackberry, he wouldn't own that either. He still doesn't know completely all the things that are available on it. (Just last week he realized he had "blue tooth"....and well, I'm trying to figure out why he needs to do anything with his teeth on his phone??) I'm the first to go for "user friendly" anything! Don't get me wrong...I think there are lots of new things that are certainly a thing to celebrate. New medications for disease, hybrid cars and front load washing machines to conserve energy and water, air conditioning has saved many a life even though we can all agree it spoils us too. Of course, this is one menopausal woman speaking, so when I say it saves lives, I really do mean it. My family can attest.....
I was taken to this verse today in light of some amazing miraculous blessings I've been witness to the past few days.
1 Corinthians 2:9-10.....
"God's wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of his purposes. You don't find it lying around on the surface. It's not the latest message, but more like the oldest—what God determined as the way to bring out his best in us, long before we ever arrived on the scene. The experts of our day haven't a clue about what this eternal plan is. If they had, they wouldn't have killed the Master of the God-designed life on a cross. That's why we have this Scripture text: No one's ever seen or heard anything like this, Never so much as imagined anything quite like it— What God has arranged for those who love him.But you've seen and heard it because God by his Spirit has brought it all out into the open before you."
It's such a comfort to know that we don't have to discover the latest message, the newest trend, or discover a new thing to find answers today. The old is still good on its Word and not affected by upgrades. It never changes. In an ever changing world, I'm thankful for something that's steadfast and true. I think of all the times that I couldn't figure out what, when, where, why, or how. But this passage says that "...long before we ever arrived on the scene,"....God has had it figured out. I don't have to figure out what the best way is. He's already done it. Long before I even realized the problem, He had the solution. Long before I even knew there would be a need, He had the answer. Whatever my need....whatever your need. Our God--the very same God Who spoke the world into existence, yet created us so personally with His hands. This great God of ours has had a plan in place since we were ever placed on His Kingdom calendar...., and it is perfect. When you are struggling with anything, remember that He's got the answer, and it's all about His timing of laying it out before you. He laid it out long ago, but it's His revealing that shows us how amazing He is. The next time you can't figure out what to do, where to go, why it's happened (or not happened), where's God, when's He going to come through for you....., whatever the problem, anticipate the timing of His goodness. We couldn't have imagined something so wonderful. Our finite minds cannot comprehend such an infinite God! He will lay it open before us. I pray that we will trust Him until the great reveal.
"Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see." 1 Peter 1:3-5
